Weekly assignment

sorry if this isn't what you are looking for this week.. I only saw the take a picture of whatever you want, I missed the abstract part. I am working on something more abstract so until then.
I couldn't find just one so I am gonna post two out of about a thousand pictures I took on saturday for our annual charity softball event.

Weekly Assignment: Abstract

Alright, last assignment may have been one of the more difficult ones, sorry if it was a deterrent for anyone. I hate to say it again, but I'm not going to bother posting assignments if we aren't getting participation. This week is Abstract, which means you can take a picture of ANYTHING! Take a picture of your cubicle wall if you want, lets see WPG's talent!

Water

GREAT salt lake

I was just up at the Great salt lake the other day when we had all that smoggy smoke in the air, and got this shot.

bored water

I took this photo on Friday evening whilst I was locked out of my car in the parking lot of The Pie.

I liked the way the water was running, but it still was quite serene.

Group email and contact info!

Hey groupies!

I created an email address for the group for me to be able to be the main point of contact for the group in terms of organization of activities, addressing group issues/concerns, and other cool stuff. The address is wasatchphotogroup@gmail.com. Please send an email to that address with your contact information (emails and phone).

I am also putting together a news letter, group policies/bylaws, and other cool information and I want to be able to have a mailing list. I think that is the only way to make sure everyone is included on all the communication. And also when we add new members, they can be easily informed of how the group functions.

Thanks groupies!

Weekly Assignment: Water

So, that last post was just a joke (unless you have a picture to post for that one)

The real assignment for this week is water. Be creative!

Have fun!

Mesa Mini - First!

I took this a while ago but I am going to use it because I couldn't drive down to Mesa Verde during work. Enjoy!

Thanks Shizzle!

New Assignment- Tilt Shift of a Pueblo Village

This weeks assignment is a very specific assignment meant to entice certain members, nay, a member (singular) , of our group to start posting again.

This weeks posting can be an existing picture and does not need to be taken this week.

Hope you all have fun with this one! (I know one of you will)

Mirror: Reflections from the city

So I had a couple of ideas throughout the week, but most of them didn't work out like I had hoped. What you see is an HDR image I threw together. This was taken Saturday afternoon, it's the reflection from the Nu Skin building in Provo. I would have liked to have the tree branch removed, but after cropping it out I felt like I was missing some important parts of the photo.

Wasatch Photo Group banner

As you can see we're sporting a new banner, hope you all like it. I'll be working on a group logo as well, if anyone has some suggestions about what you think would make a good logo for our group, feel free to comment and I'll see what I can come up with.

Long Exposure - American Flag

I am still learning how to do long exposures... in fact, this is my first one.

Long Exposure: The Hands of Time

Focal length: 34mm

ISO: 200

Aperture: f/6.3,

Shutter: 6.5 seconds

Lighting: TV in the background

Technique: I used my camera remote to start and stop the exposure as I manually turned the hands.

Weekly Assignment: Mirror

We've had some excellent posts on long exposure, and I know we have a couple more to come. The new assignment is Mirror. I think this will be really interesting to see what people turn in.

Happy shooting!

Facebook page

Hey groupies! I made a facebook fan page for our group. I thought we could each have our own album and a place to display our work. At the very least, go find the page and become a fan, and invite your friends!

Portrait event

Hey groupies,

Most of you saw on Facebook that I created an event for the group. A 3 hour open-house style, portrait session. I've invited a lot of people and so far, I have had a great response. We need to discuss the details in advance so this thing comes off well and is a success for our group.

I want to get the group together to discuss the details. For those that work at iC, I will send a meeting request, but for those that don't, I don't know how to get a hold of you other than our blog. If you want to plan with me, lemme know ASAP. There may be some fees involved (like renting equipment or fees from the site we're going to) and need to get firm committments on who is going to be there.

Thanks,
Ry

Geometry in everyday stuff

I think it's funny how many people fight the learning of math, when it is present in everything we do. Just my opinion.

Focal length: 36mm

This was a really fun assignment as I haven't ever played with the exposure time like this. This isn't the best shot or anything but I would love suggestions and feedback.

Long exposure assignment

I will try and get better at getting you guys/gals, the F-stop exposure, lighting..

Weekly Assignment: Long exposure

Alright there's the new assignment. Lets see some submissions for real this week! We're all busy, but if we're not going to have more than 1 or 2 submissions each week, it's not worth coming up with an assignment. We moved to this site because people were saying it would increase participation, lets see it!

Try to get a 1+ second exposure on this one. Good luck and enjoy!

Here's a few great examples and ideas of what you could do:

Photo Club Event - Portrait session

So, I took charge and scheduled an event for my photo club. On April 10th, we are going to have an open house style photoshoot. I am hoping that all the members of the group will attend AND we'll get a great response from friends and family... and extended peeps. So excited to get more experience and spend time with my awesome photo club friends!

Well since I can't see to figure out how to reply to your comment, I'll post it here. This image is uncropped, but after you mentioned cropping... maybe I should've taken out the far right power pole to make for a more symmetrical image as well as remove some of the distraction from the main focus of the image.

This is my 2 year old, Emily.

I locked my mirror up before the shot to prevent any unnecessary extra movement.

Post processing: DPP (Canon's software) decreased exposure 1/3 stop, increased contrast 10%.

Photo Assignment Feb 2 - Feb 8 - Balance

This just gets better and better. Every ones photos have been magical. We hope everyone is having fun and learning as well. This weeks assignment is "Balance". This is a highly subjective assignment so don't stress. You can do lots of things, like depicting balance (a person balancing on one foot) or your photo can be balanced and not necessarily depicted it (two trees standing next to each other). This one will be challenging, but I am sure we will have some great pics from the wiz photographers we have in the club.

Good Luck.

Poo.

(I couldn't think of anything funny to say in the post. Poo is always funny)
